The Tanzania Graduate Farmers Association (TGFA) is a both Proffessional and practitioners membership-based organization founded in 2000 and registered in Tanzania under civil society act with registration number S.O. 11625 in 2002. It was registered at the request, and through the efforts of, graduates of different cadres from Sokoine University of Agriculture and other Universities in Tanzania with registration number
The word ‘graduate’, as it appears on the title, does not strictly mean that one has to have university degree attended formal classes, rather a catch word that connotes a paradigm shift that agriculture is science so farming and other related business must be done professionally by following and adhere to sustainable technological advancements and strategically adopting and or developed best practices.
The target group of members are organized entrepreneurs including graduates of different levels of education, farmers groups and Cooperatives, researchers, service providers and agricultural professionals in all sections of agriculture value chain include service providers, producers, traders and processors. Organized Farmer groups, youth groups and organizations, cooperatives and youth led agro enterprises are Associate members or partners.
Currently TGA members comprises people and firms from all segments of agriculture and related business such as those engage in livestock, tree planting, fishery, farming, beekeeping, agro processors, input and output suppliers, professional advisors, research, ICT experts, Social Entrepreneurs, agronomists, animal and food scientists, food suppliers traders and consumers.
Therefore TGFA geared to promote organized entrepreneurs, youth and community at large to engage and invest in agriculture value chains by collectively develop and adopt profitable business models given the good business environment for them to tap into agri business opportunities whether as producers, traders, professionals and technical experts, input suppliers, processors, transporters etc.
TGFA believes that in order for societies and nations to be secured; agriculture should be the backbone and it should be modern and sustainable thus stimulating innovation, trade and industrialization so highly learned, well organized and capable entrepreneurs (in terms of finances and other resources) and inspired individuals in rural and urban areas embark into its value chains.
